Jaffa’s Flea Market – Shuk HaPishpishim – is an interesting shopping destination and a must-see in Tel Aviv. It counts as one of the city’s most popular markets, attracting locals and tourists alike. It’s a great place to hunt for bargains and souvenirs, as it is well-known for the diversity of items on display. There are artisan objects, antiques, handmade goods, art, second-hand apparel, refurbished furniture, and all kinds of knick-knacks.
It’s all worth seeing even if you are not in the mood to shop. It’s a cultural experience more than anything, showing you a side of Tel Aviv, unlike other tourist landmarks. Founded in the 1930s, the market was renovated in 2017, but although modernised it maintains its old-world charm. It’s pedestrianised, so you can walk and window shop, then stop at a local café for a bite and refreshments. Don’t forget your camera – there are many opportunities to capture colourful memories, like backgammon players in a heated game, sellers and buyers haggling, quaint cafes, and much more.
The market is not open on Saturdays.
